An amazing dad, husband, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 20, 2016 – 5 days after his 89th birthday. He will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, and humor—even in the hospital when asked to “say AH, Wilbur” he replied “AH…Wilbur” then chuckled. He loved just being on the farm but could boast incredible experiences: Joining the Navy (1945-48) and participating in Operation Crossroads atomic bomb tests at Bikini, Kwajalein, and Eniwetok; travelling to 49 states and Canada in an RV; being a union carpenter since 1950 having owned Stewart Const. Co. and working for Ridilla Const., Latrobe, where he met Arnold Palmer and built his car dealership; and volunteering countless hours for United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington, Sherwood Forest Theater, and Kinloch Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Beamer Stewart, whom he met at the age of 15 when riding horseback through the fields; his loving daughter Lucy Stewart (Christopher Hykes); brother Blair Stewart of Ocala, FL;, and wonderful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard J. and Eva Irene (Stuart) Stewart, Sr.; sisters Marion Gene (Kebernick) and Margaret (Rohrer); brothers Howard Jr., George, Paul, and William David.

Arrangements are under the care of CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington, PA  15068 (724-335-1951).   A memorial service is forthcoming. For online condolences and more information please visit us at www.petersfamilyfuneralhomes.com.
