Norma Jean (Confer) Virag, 81, of Natrona Heights, PA passed away peacefully in the company of her family on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Platinum Ridge, Brackenridge, PA.

Norma was born on Saturday, December 8, 1934 to the late Dwight “Piney” and Geraldine (Bain) Confer.  Norma lived her entire life in the Natrona Heights area.  She graduated from Har-Brack High School Class of 1952 and went to work in the offices of Allegheny Ludlum Steel, Brackenridge and Leechburg locations.  Following her time at Allegheny Ludlum, she took time off to raise her children before giving more than 20 years at Southwest Bank, where she retired as assistant bank manager in 1993 from the Tarentum branch.  Before her battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Norma was very active in numerous community activities – Friends of the Community Library of Allegheny Valley, Herbal Thymes Gardening Club in Saxonburg, and Allegheny Valley YMCA Silver Sneakers.  She loved playing cards with her girlfriends and joining in group activities like Girl Scout leader, Junior Women’s Club, and swimming exercises at Sylvan Pool.

Norma leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband of 60 years, John Virag, Jr.; her children: Susan (Jack) Thompson of Natrona Heights, Jeanne (Butch) Lessig of Natrona Heights, and John (Corinne) Virag of San Clemente, CA; three grandchildren: Gavin of Natrona Heights, Sara of Laguna Niguel, CA and Austin of San Clemente, CA; twin great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Dawson; her brother, Skip (Janet) Confer of Cape Coral, FL; her cousins, Barbara and Sandra; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Family and friends are invited from 1-3 and 5-7 on Sunday, November 13, 2016 to the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 (724-224-7730).
