Dr. William Sykes Reed
Cabot, PA
Dr. William Sykes Reed, 87, was peacefully welcomed to the heavens on Monday, January 26, 2026 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot. He was born September 29, 1938, in Natrona Heights, to the late Dr. Wallace Sykes & Charlotte Miller Reed. Along with his family he was a member of Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church. Bill graduated from Mercersburg Academy in 1956 and continued his undergraduate studies at Allegheny College. After earning his bachelors in 1960, he attended the University of Pittsburgh Dental School. Following dental school, Bill entered the United States Navy, where he proudly served as a practicing dentist. While stationed in Manhattan Beach, California, he met the love of his life, Cheri Sievers. They were married on July 23, 1966 and shared 59 years together. Bill returned to Natrona Heights with his California beauty and went on to practice dentistry for 40 years. Over the years Bill enjoyed many hobbies, including building model trains, entertaining others with the sounds of his banjo, Wednesday nights with “the Bigs” at the Anchor Inn, and his Thursday golf shenanigans. A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Bill could be heard cheering and hollering from his den every Sunday. An avid gardener and landscaper he could most often be found in his yard, working hard to maintain his self-proclaimed award-winning grass. In his later years, he spent winters in Florida, enjoying the warm sun on his boat The Toodle-Loo, or out on the golf course giving tips and lessons. Known affectionately as the “golf whisperer”, Bill loved helping others perfect their game. He was a long time member of Brackenridge Heights Country Club & Buffalo Valley. Bill instilled his love of the game in his grandchildren and took great pride in their successes both on and off the green. With a larger than life personality, and natural gift for performing, Bill always brought laughter to the room. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Cheri; his children, Tom (Sue) Reed, Kelly (Brad) Olenic and Tracy (Jason) Booher; and his grandchildren, Amelia & Tessa Reed; Sheridan, Emmitt & Quinn Olenic; and Reese & Griffin Booher. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his twin sisters, Mary Ann Ingersoll & Sally Jane Mason. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Concordia Lutheran Ministries and Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care provided during Bill’s final moments. At Bill’s request, all services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
