William D. Johnson, Sr., 83, of Buffalo Township, PA, died on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, PA.
Bill was born on December 28, 1929 in Natrona, PA to the late Elmer and Beda Smith Johnson. He was a graduate of Har-Brack High School class of 1947. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a vice-president for New Kensington Collection Services retiring in 1989 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Bull Creek United Presbyterian Church, Tarentum. He was past president of the Pennsylvania Collection Association. He enjoyed gardening and sports. He played ball for Furer’s Dairy playing the position of pitcher. He enjoyed his family and grandchildren, especially his grandson.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years: Gladys M. McFarland Johnson; his children: Tom (Nancy) Johnson of Springdale and Laurie M. Johnson of Sarver, PA; 2 grandchildren: Kristen Clevenger of Freeport and Eric Johnson of Springdale and 1 great grandson; and 2 brothers: Richard Johnson of Lower Burrell and Ron (Mary Jane) Johnson of Sodus, NY and a sister: Emily Wagner of Sarver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son: William D. Johnson, Jr. (1979); and a brother: Ralph Johnson.
Family and friends are invited from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, June 24 to the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA (724-224-7730), where services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday with the Reverend Dr. W.
