Ruth Milz Obituary

Ruth (Schuller) Milz, 98, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Presbyterian SeniorCare, Oakmont.

Ruth was born Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1920, in Salem, Ohio, to the late Martin N. and Ina Edwick Schuller. She was a former resident of both Cleveland, Ohio, and Pittsburgh. Ruth graduated from Perry High School in Pittsburgh and was an alumna of the Carnegie Institute and Hiram College. She taught at the Pittsburgh School for the Blind and transcribed many book and articles into Braille. An avid reader, writer of letters and enthusiastic traveler, Ruth loved learning new things and making new friends. She was, for the greater part of her life, a faithful member of United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington. Family knew her as a piano player, wonderful cook and hostess and constant corrector of grammar. She was also a skilled and creative knitter of clothing, artwork, children's toys and prayer shawls, all of which she joyfully gave away.

Ruth is survived by her children, Cynthia (Charles) Yerrick, of Morrisville, Vt., and the Rev. Paul Milz, of New Kensington; her grandchildren, Erik (Carolyn) Simpson, of Grinnell, Iowa, and Thomas (Alexis) Simpson, of Exeter, N.H.; her great-grandsons, Peter, Will and Blake; and many lifelong neighbors and friends who recall her quick wit, lively spirit and delight in shocking those she thought a bit conventional. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Wendell; her sister, Betty Jeanne; her nephew, Steven Unangst; her daughter, Deborah (Rick) Simpson; and her grandson, Aron Milz.

At present, there are no definite plans for a memorial service, but surely in good time family and friends will be invited to a gathering of story-telling and great thanksgiving for the death-defying love of God in the Lord Jesus Christ. All good things come from God, all good things return to God; thanks be to God! Arrangements are under the care of the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068 (724-335-1951). Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions can be made to United Presbyterian Church, 601 Fifth Ave., New Kensington, PA 15068.
