Roxie May Leightner, formerly of Natrona Heights, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015, in her sleep of natural causes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Bill) William Leightner, a World War II veteran, who died in 1981. He retired as a craneman in the BOF furnaces department at Allegheny Ludlum Steel after 38 years. She was a loving mother of four children: Charles George Leightner (wife, Paula), of Warren, Ohio, William Randall Leightner (wife, Mary Ann), of Natrona Heights, Roxanne Beth Rahuba (husband, Robert), of Charlotte, N.C. (who lovingly provided her care for the past eight years) and Rory Dean Leightner (wife, Carla), of Venetia; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Roxie was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Brackenridge, to George and Laura Rowe. She was very proud of her family and the fact that she and her sisters ran the family grocery store as she was growing up. When she married Charles in 1945, she was determined to instill family values with her children and grandchildren (which she did). She held an accounting certificate from Duff's Business College and did the bookkeeping for her parent's several businesses. She worked as a credit union manager at the Cemline Corp. for several years, managed the municipal tax office of Pennsylvania Municipal Authority for 10 years and worked at Action Industries in Cheswick as the credit union manager. Roxie was preceded in death by her sisters, June Rowe, Dorothy Rowe and Alice Beegan; and her brother, Ned Rowe. She will be greatly missed by her family.
