Mary Ann (Szafranski) Rummell, 87, of Saxonburg, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016, at Elmcroft Personal Care Home, Saxonburg, PA.

Mary Ann was born in West Natrona on Wednesday, November 28, 1928 to the late John and Elizabeth Salata Szafranski.  She was a 1947 graduate of Har-Brack High School and lived most of her life in the Natrona Heights area.  Mary Ann became a homemaker after her marriage to “Red” Rummell except for a few years working at the old Sun Drug and G.C. Murphy’s in the Heights Plaza.  She was quite good at bowling and belonged to a league for many years.  Camping, traveling with her husband, watching her granddaughters dance, cheer and play soccer were her pastimes.  She especially loved her family and the picnics, parties and celebrations she shared with them.  Her time volunteering at Grace United Methodist Church was important to her and she was at various times Lay Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Turkey Dinner Chairperson, and Administrative Council Member; she also attended Bible Study for many years.  In almost every drawer, in her Bible and in her desk were hand-written Bible verses or inspirational poems that she copied and saved all over her house.

Mary Ann is survived by her loving daughters Linda (Gary) Schaefers and Sharon Leonardi, granddaughters Jessica (James) Campana and Jacqueline Schaefers and great-grandsons Anthony (whom she called “A.B.C.”) and Troy (“Troy Boy”) Campana.  She is also survived by two nieces and two nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband LaVerne “Red” Rummell on March 23, 2013, her sister Elizabeth DeSanto, her brother John “Sonny” Szafranski, two infant sisters, Cecelia and Irene, and son-in-law, John Leonardi.

Family and friends are invited from 2-4 and 6-8 Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA (724.224.7730).  Services will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 with Dawn Lynn Check officiating (everyone is asked to meet at the church).  Private burial will follow at Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Grace United Methodist Church may be made in memory of Mary Ann.
