Laurel Lee (Frazier) Shimek, 84, died on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at St. Margaret Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Laurel was born in Rimersburg, PA on Monday, April 21, 1941 to the late Roy Lee and Arliene Margaret (Gafner) Frazier. As a teen, her family moved to Butler, PA where she graduated from Butler High School. Having a beautiful singing voice, she sang in various choirs and participated in musical theater productions. She studied at Pennsylvania State University and Indiana State University graduating with a masters degree in English. Laurel then enjoyed 35 years of teaching at Freeport High School. Laurel and her late husband, Robert, enjoyed hunting and fishing together. In her retirement, Laurel tended her flower gardens and participated in and directed various church choirs. As well, she was known for her sewing of beautiful quilts that she made with her friend Ellie Boreland.
Laurel is survived by her brothers Roy D. Frazier of Charlotte, NC and Bradoak R. Frazier of High Point, NC. She is also survived by her two nieces Marcy Frazier Mather and Lori Frazier as well as her nephew Nathan M. Frazier.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at 11AM on Monday, June 23, 2025 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 373 Delaware Avenue, Oakmont, PA 15139. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Robert Peters Funeral Home, Inc., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 (724-224-7730).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the education fund of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 373 Delaware Avenue, Oakmont, PA 15139.
