John Virag, Jr., 97 of Natrona Heights, PA passed away peacefully in the company of his children on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights, PA.  Born Thursday, March 8, 1928, in W. Natrona , he was the son of the late John and Caroline (Pokrivka) Virag.  John was a glass worker at PPG Industries for 46 years.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. army during the Korean War. John was a graduate of Penn Technical Institute in Electronics.  He earned a political science certificate from the University of Pittsburgh.  He was the first President of the Council of Government in 1979 and served as a Harrison township commissioner for ten years. He is survived by his children, Sue (Jack) Thompson, Jeanne (Butch) Lessig both of Natrona Heights, and his son John (Corinne)Virag of Whidbey Island, WA; his grandchildren: Gavin (Gina), Sara and Austin; his great grandchildren: Twins Charlotte and Dawson and Griffin and Graciana; his brother Tom (Joann) of Florida.  He was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above, his wife Norma Jean (Confer) on November 10, 2016, his brother Chuck and sister Mary Ann Serbin.

Family and friends are invited from 4-7 on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 (724-224-7730). Parting prayers will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 9:00AM.   Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 AM  at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 800 Montana Ave., Natrona Heights, PA 15065 with the Reverend Andrew Fischer, officiating.  A private burial will follow at St. Mary Mother of God Cemetery, Yatesboro, PA.  For online condolences and more information please visit www.petersfamilyfuneralhomes.com.
