John R. “Jack” Thompson

Of Natrona Heights, PA

John R. Thompson known as “Jack” or “Butter” to those closest to him, passed away peacefully with his family on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Jack was born on Thursday, November 29, 1951 to the late Florence Hildebrand Thompson.  He heroically fought his battle with pancreatic cancer for the past 10 months.  Preceded in death by his mother and his older brother, Dennis (Ruth) Thompson. Jack grew up in Oakmont and was a member of the Hildebrand family, a large family that resided in Oakmont for decades.  Jack is survived by his wife of 33 years, Susan (Virag) Thompson, 2 sons, Jack of Oakmont and Gavin(Gina) of Natrona Heights, 4 grandchildren, Ethan (Keely) of Stockholm, Sweden, Piper of Plum Borough and Griffin and Graciana of Natrona Heights. Also survived by a great granddaughter, Indigo of Stockholm, Sweden. Additionally, Jack is survived by a niece, 2 nephews and multiple cousins.  Jack was a devoted family man, loyal friend and a man whose life was a testament to hope, redemption and compassion. After overcoming his own struggles, he remained clean and sober for 41 years. His willingness to share his journey touched countless lives. Known for his kind heart and sense of humor, Jack was a true friend to many. He had a lifelong love of music especially rock and roll and classic hits of the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. One of the greatest joys was managing THE IGNITERS, helping to reunite the band for multiple reunions and performances. Seeing old friends come together through music brought him immense happiness. Above all, Jack will be remembered for his love he shared with his family and friends.  His legacy is one of resilience, kindness and belief that everyone deserves a second chance.  

Family and friends are invited to a memorial mass on Friday, July 3, at 12:00 PM at the Most Blessed Sacrament campus, 800 Montana Ave., Natrona Heights, PA, with Father Andrew Fischer, officiating. Burial will be private.
