John J. Shutak, Sr., 96, of Fawn Township passed away on Monday, March. 10, 2014 in Platinum Ridge Nursing Home, Brackenridge, PA.  He was born on November 2, 1917 in the Parnassus section of New Kensington to the late Frank and Julia Juhalik Shutak. He was an Army veteran of World War II. John retired as a glasscutter from PPG in Creighton after 42 years of service.  He was a devoted member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Russellton where he lead the rosary each morning for over 20 years.  He was a member of the Jedonata Club and the American Legion.  He enjoyed gardening on his small farm in Fawn Township, golfing and woodworking.  He traveled and attended Slovak and Polish festivals where he and his late wife Bernice sang and joined in the festivities.  He also traveled to Europe and visited relatives in Poland and Slovakia.  He would often spend part of the winter visiting his daughter in Florida.  

He is survived by his children: John (Jay) Shutak, Jr. of Tarentum, Dennis Shutak of Tarentum and Yvonne Zola of Tallahassee, Fl.; step-children: Mark Butkowski and Stephanie (David) Shaffer both of Philadelphia, PA; 3 grandchildren: David (Cathy) Shutak of New Braunfels, TX, Jeffrey Shutak of Tarentum and Lorie (James) Lassinger of Brackenridge; 2 step grandchildren: Brett Shaffer and Nicholas Butkowski and 10 great grandchildren.
    
He was preceded in death by his first wife: Genevieve (Zola) Shutak (1956) and his second wife: Bernice (Owsiany) Shutak (2003); a brother: Joseph Shutak and 3 sisters: Marion Mainor, Mildred West and Anna Hepler.  

Family and friends are invited from 9:30 until parting prayers at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 13 at the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA  15065 (724-224-7730). Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 11th and Carolina Street, Natrona Heights, PA 15065.   Burial will follow at Sacred Heart-St. Peter’s Cemetery, Tarentum.
