John A. Long, 75, of New Kensington, PA, died Monday, November 1, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. John was born on September 22, 1946 in New Kensington, PA to the late John E. and Lillian C. (Girardi) Long. He was a graduate of Ken High class of 1964 and he then attended Rosedale Tech. He retired from working at Eaton Motors as a mechanic for over 30 years and he later drove school bus for Roenigk Bus Company and was a former custodian at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of New Kensington. He loved to ride ATV’S, hunting and motorcycles. His latest hobby was riding his hoveround all over with his sidekick “Josh”, first on the foot plate and then on a chariot built by his Pappy John and Josh. He married his blind date on June 5, 1971. He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Joyce Beighley Long; 2 daughters: Angela M. Long (Joseph) and Sherry A. Long (Ronald); a granddaughter: Constance Marie Ford; a brother: Joseph F. (Leah) Long, Sr. and a sister: Lillian (Rich) Clocher and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are Sarah E. and Ashley B. as he called them #3 and #4 daughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew: Joseph F. Long, Jr. (August 2021).
Family and friends are invited from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, November 5, 2021 to the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 221 Ridge Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068 with the Reverend Dona Von Eck and Reverend Alfred Petrill, officiating (EVERYONE IS ASKED TO MEET AT THE CHURCH).
