Howard J. Rowan, 90, of Natrona Heights, PA, died on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Platinum Ridge, Brackenridge, PA.
Howard was born on December 19, 1923, in the Birdville section of Harrison Township, PA to the late Homer Glenn and Rosetta Pearl Aikins Rowan. He was a graduate of Har-Brack Union High School. He was a Radioman Third Class in the Navy serving during WW II where he was stationed in Vero Beach, FL where he met his wife to be and they returned to Natrona Heights. He worked as a tool and die maker for Allegheny Ludlum then transferred to PPG Research for 8 years then returning to Allegheny Ludlum till he retired in 1986 after 20 years of service. He was a former member of the Church of the Brethren, Natrona Heights. He was a life member of the Natrona Brackenridge American Legion, a member of the former MORA club where he was past president. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.
He is survived by his children: Richie (Judy) Rowan of Naples, FL, Marcelene L. (Wayne) Dyer of Boca Raton, FL, Teri A. (Richard) DeMichele of New Kensington and “Chuck” Glenn (Louann) Rowan of Brackenridge; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; a brother: Clair “Turtle” (Carol) Rowan of Sarver, PA and a sister: Shirley (Rev. Richard) Shick of Sarver, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57½ years: Helen L. Taylor Rowan (February 3, 2002); his infant son: Richard Rowan; a brother: Frank Rowan and 2 sisters: Marion Lesney and Betty Lou Hutcheson.
Family and friends are invited from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Monday, May 19 to the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA (724-224-7730), where services will be at 10 AM on Tuesday with his brother in law the Reverend Richard Shick, officiating.
