Harry Gitano "Pap Pap" Pollino, 99, passed peacefully while he slept Sunday morning, December 19, 2022. Harry was a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II. He was born March 29, 1922, in Stanton Heights, the son of the late Antonio and Maria Mento Pollino. He was a member of Mt. St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in New Kensington. Harry spent more than 40 years as a private contractor, working hard well into his 70’s. He was a member of the VFW Post 92 in Lower Burrell. He enjoyed playing pinocle, the casino, gardening, cooking and being with family. In his younger years, he spent many nights out with friends dancing at the Swing Shandy in Natrona where he met his wife who he married in August 1946 and spent 63 years of his life with until her passing. He loved his Sunday morning polkas while making spaghetti sauce for the ritual Sunday family get together. He is survived by his children, a daughter, Janene (Michael) Pacek, of Freeport; and eight sons, Gary (Sandy) Pollino, of New Kensington, Harry Lee (Sandy) Pollino, of Peru, N.Y., Anthony (Patricia) Pollino, of West Deer, Michael Pollino, of New Kensington, David (Terri) Pollino, of Sarver, Dean (Terri) Pollino, of New Kensington, Vincent (Kimberly) Pollino, of West Deer, and Bryan (Christina) Pollino, of New Kensington; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Joseph Pollino. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene V. Pollino; one grandchild,` Dominic M. Pollino, a great-grandchild, Cali Mae Girvin; and four sisters, Tony Smith, Paula Diana, Joanna DiMartino and Fran Brangan.
Family and friends are invited from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 to the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068, where a parting prayer service will be held at 12:30 PM on Thursday, December 23, 2021. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM at Mount Saint Peter Church, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
