Elmer R. Christy, 82, of Fawn Township, PA, died on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
Elmer was born on Friday, March 24, 1933 in Tarentum, PA to the late William E. and Agnes (Poston) Christy. He is an Army Veteran having served time in the Korean War. He worked for 8 years as a laborer at PPG Industries, then worked until the age of 60 as a truck driver for various trucking companies: 25 years at Breman’s Express, then several years combined at Preston Trucking, St. Johnsbury Trucking, and Season-all Trucking until his retirement in 1993. He also worked part-time as a policeman in Fawn Twp. He was a member of the Millerstown United Methodist Church, Fawn Twp.
Elmer was a member of the Outdoor Life Lodge, Fawn; the Tarentum VFW 5758; the Tarentum Eagles 669; a life member of the Brackenridge American Legion 226 and Fawn Twp. #1; a past member and governor of the Tarentum Moose; and a past member of the Western PA Fireman’s Association. Elmer enjoyed time at his brother and sister-in-law’s camp, fishing and hunting for many years. He had a love of motorcycles and rode his Harley for several years, spending a lot of time with his neighbor, Chris Callen, remembering the old days of riding; it meant so much to him. Elmer spent a lot of time taking care of his yard and could not wait until spring arrived so he could start his yard work, which got carried on by his family and neighbors when he could no longer do it himself. His family spent many vacations on the Outer Banks and Elmer could not wait to go there every year; he never lost his love for the “Banks.” He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather – he was “Pap” to every one of them.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Mae (Reitz) Christy, and their children: Jim C. (Cindy) Christy of Fawn Twp., PA, Laurie Christy of Tarentum, PA, and Donna (Roxane) Christy of Sharpsburg, PA; 2 grandchildren: Shane (Dana) Chesher and Christy (Kenny) Chesher; and 2 great-grandchildren: Shayla and Emma; 1 brother: Charles (Serena) Christy of Palm Desert, CA; and a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Leona and Ralph Baker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Ethel Daly and 2 brothers: Merle and William E. Christy.
