Edward J. Montanari, 83, of New Kensington, PA, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at the West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
Ed was born September 18, 1931 in Renton, PA to the late Frank and Ann Hughes Montanari. He graduated from Plum High School class of 1950. He was a veteran in the Army during the Korean War. He was a coal miner working in Barking, Newfield, Jane, Fawn 91 and Miriana 58 mines. He was the owner of Montanari Service and Towing of New Kensington from 1961 to 1970. He was a Christian in faith. He was passionate about the Pittsburgh sports teams. He was a master gardener and was most proud of his tomatoes. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending weekends at his Slippery Rock camp. He was a life member of the VFW of Lower Burrell and the New Kensington American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Effie Lou Sinclair Montanari; his children: Edward, Jean (Carter) Watson, David (Cathy) and Kenneth (Rebecca); his grandchildren: Melissa, Monica, Vincent, Emily, Laura and Jeremiah; his great grandchildren: Issac, Noah and Anna and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Barbara Redmond.
Family and friends are invited from 6-9 PM on Friday, February 13 at the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068 (724-335-1951) where services will be at 11 AM on Saturday with the Reverend Harold Mele, officiating.
