Dorothy A. Rowe, 87, of Natrona Heights, Harrison Township, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia, Cabot. She was born Sept. 27, 1926, the fourth child to the late George Blowse and Laura Elizabeth (Berkes) Rowe, in Brackenridge. Dorothy was a 1944 graduate of Har-Brack High School. After graduating, she went to work at Gulf Research in Harmarville. After working eight-and-a-half years there in the experimental machine shop, she decided to change careers. Dorothy entered Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, and after three-and-a-half years, she went to work at Allegheny Valley Hospital as a general duty and head nurse on North Wing and 3E. She retired from Allegheny Valley Hospital in 1984. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, Natrona Heights, from a young age and played piano and organ for many years there. She also taught Sunday School. She also was so interested in the Bible that she traveled to Jordon and Israel to see the Holy Land, as well as Egypt, Austria and Germany. Dorothy also loved the United States and she bought a brand new station wagon in which she and her sister, June, and two of her nephews traveled to each of the lower 48 states over the years as well as Canada. Dorothy was a good aunt to her six nephews and four nieces as well as numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. In addition to her nephews and nieces, Dorothy is survived by her sister, Roxie Leightner, of Charlotte, N.C. In addition to her parents mentioned above, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ned Rowe; and her sisters, Alice Beegan and June A. Rowe. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, in the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, 724-224-7730. Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, in Calvary Baptist Church, 1207 Pacific Ave., Natrona Heights, with her pastor, the Rev. Larry Pawson officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in the Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
