Dorothy Durci Grandey, 84, of Mantoloking, NJ died on Saturday, March 11, 2023 in New Jersey. She was born on Tuesday, December 13, 1938 in Sarver, PA to the late Michael John and Magdalene Elavski Durci. She was raised in the Pittsburgh area and relocated to New Jersey, where she had resided since 1967. She was a graduate of Vincentian High School in Pittsburgh. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in secondary level English and Literature from Carlow College, a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling, along with Certification in Supervision and Administration, from Kean University of New Jersey, and a doctoral degree in the Department of Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Grandey served as a Guidance Director, Supervisor, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of Special Services , and Assistant Superintendent of Schools during her years as an educator in the Plainfield, New Providence, and Montville Township School Districts in New Jersey. After her retirement from a long career in education, she continued to serve as an education consultant to several New Jersey public school districts and conducted teacher training sessions on a variety of education topics for local districts, as well as at state and national conventions. Dr. Grandey was a member of the Rutgers Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, the New Jersey Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, the New Jersey Council of Teachers of English, the New Jersey Council of Teachers of World Languages, the New Jersey Council of Education, and the Principals and Supervisors Association. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Bay Head, New Jersey and Guardian Angels Parish, Natrona Heights, PA. Dr. Grandey is survived by a brother: Gerald Durci of Brackenridge, PA; several nieces and nephews and a number of great nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law: Sister Brigid Marie Grandey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Richard R. Grandey; her brother: William Durci; 4 sisters: Helen Priore, Marian N. Rovnanik, Rosalie Jean Wilson and Cynthia Sue Bohatch; several nieces and nephews and her long time companion Evan “Steve” Gillingham.
Family and friends are invited from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, March 19, 2023 to the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 (724-224-7730), where a parting prayer service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 9:30 AM. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2023 at the Guardian Angels Parish-Most Blessed Sacrament Campus, 800 Montana Avenue, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 with Fr.
