Donald E. Whitbred

Donald E. Whitbred, of Cabot, Pa, passed away at Allegheny General Hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Donald (Don) and his wife Donna were longtime residents of Natrona Heights, Pa. Born on Monday, August 22, 1932, in Altoona, PA to the late Edward and Shirley (Lansberry) Whitbred, Donald lived a life rich with dedication, curiosity, and love. 

Donald received his MBA from Penn State University and served as a financial officer for his alma mater for many years, both at Penn State Main Campus and the New Kensington Campus, where he was known for his unwavering commitment to the institution and his expertise in managing its financial affairs. 

Donald was married to Donna Hertzog Whitbred for 53 years before her passing on February 25, 2014.  A lover of adventure and discovery, Donald and Donna enjoyed traveling the world and reading books on a wide range of topics. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and mutual respect. They made many treks to Las Vegas and other parts of the US, and abroad to Ireland, Great Britain, and Italy. Don found joy in learning about new places, cultures, and ideas, and his intellectual curiosity shaped many aspects of his life.

Don and Donna had one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Whitbred, and was preceded in death by a brother, Randy, who resided in Florida., Donald is survived by his wife’s nephew Michael (Sandra) Wachter, and friends and colleagues who will carry his memory with them always.

A Memorial of Life service will be held at a later date at the Concordia Lutheran Services at Lund Chapel.
