Donald Eugene McVay, 88, of Lower Burrell, PA, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Presbyterian Senior Care, Oakmont, PA.
Donald was born on June 15, 1926 in Tarentum, PA to the late Thomas James and Frances Marian Moorhead McVay. Don resided in the Natrona area and attended Har-Brack High School. He served in the Navy during WWII as a Sonarman aboard the USS Frank Knox. Following the war, he served 8 months in China and was discharged at Bainbridge, MD in 1946. Don worked as a sign painter at PPG in Creighton, PA retiring in 1981 after 38 years of service. He was a charter member of the Bethel United Methodist Church of Lower Burrell. He was a member and past master of the Bethel Masonic Lodge #789 of Lower Burrell, a member and past Chaplain of the New Kensington Eagles Post 533, and a life member of VFW Post 92, Lower Burrell, PA.
He is survived by his children: Janice Elaine McVay Mazur of Summerville, SC and Darcy Lee McVay of New Kensington, PA; 5 grandchildren: Robert Mazur, Jr. and his wife, Sarah, Joy Mazur and her husband Mark Rogge, Donna Pacelli and her husband Daniel Chang, Paul Pacelli and Diana Pacelli; 3 great grandchildren: twins: Andrew and Zachary Mazur and Catherine Mazur; and his friend: Dolores Oravec.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife: Doris Michel McVay (2011); 2 brothers: Thomas McVay, Jr. and Richard McVay; 2 sisters: Dorothy Smith and Virginia Mitchell; and a son-in-law: Robert Mazur, Sr.
Family and friends are invited from 5-8 on Friday, May 1, to the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068 (724-335-1951). A service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 2 at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 150 Alder Street, Lower Burrell, PA 15068 with the Pastor Nancy Shute, officiating. (Everyone is asked to meet at the church). Burial will follow at the Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, PA. Military Honors will be accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard.
