Donald W. Mainhart, 86, of Brackenridge, PA, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot, PA.
Donald was born on October 7, 1927 in Tarentum, PA to the late Westley D. Mainhart and Velma Woods Mainhart Leslie. He has lived in Brackenridge for most of his life. He was a graduate of Tarentum High School class of 1946. He was a veteran serving in the Army during WW II, stationed in Japan during the occupation for a couple of years. He was a successful building contractor and built over 200 houses in the area in the 1960's and 70's, and then worked for the Carpenter's Union for many years until retiring in the 1990's. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Tarentum where he was very active over the last 20 years. He was on the Board of Directors of the Grove Manor in Grove City, PA since the 1950's and a member of the Freeport Odd Fellows since the 1960'. He loved camping and traveling and took his family camping every weekend from April until November when his 4 children were at home, and still camped at Slippery Rock Campground with his wife Emma 6 months out of the year.
He will be sadly missed by his 4 children: Donna Phillips of Tarentum, PA, Marcia (Leon) Mainhart Richey of Gibsonia, PA, David W. Mainhart of Brackenridge, PA and Laura L. (Jeff) Hank of Tarentum, PA; 6 grandchildren: Nicola, John, Kevin, Andrew, Emily and Josh and 4 great grandchildren: Faith, Dominic, Adele and Evelyn; and a sister: Marjorie V. Rider of Lower Burrell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife: Emma M. Rogers Mainhart, who passed May of 2013 after 61 years of marriage.
At Donald's request there will be no public visitation. Everyone Is invited to the First Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock Street, Tarentum, PA 15084 for a Celebration of Life, on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 10:00 AM, with the Rev. Philip A. Beck, officiating. Private burial will be held at Prospect Cemetery, Brackenridge. Military honors will be accorded by the Brackenridge American Legion at the church.
