Dennis L. “Shooter” Shutak
of Tarentum, PA
Dennis L. “Shooter” Shutak, 75 of Tarentum, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Concordia of Cabot, PA Shooter was born on July 22, 1950, in New Kensington, Pa to the late John J., Sr. and Genevieve Zola Shutak. Shooter worked as a truck driver at Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge. He was of the catholic faith and was a member of the Oregon Hunting and Fishing Club, Brackenridge and he enjoyed going to Florida in the winter, hunting and fishing, traveling with his dog Misha, golf and riding his motorcycle. Shooter, as his friends called him, was first and foremost a union activist. He was co-chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Brackenridge and was also on the Education and Recreation Committee for USW Local 1196 where he helped plan many old-fashioned family picnics attended by thousands of members and their families. Shooter held office for over 15 years as Recording Secretary for USW Local 1196 and served on several Negotiating Committees. He worked in transportation in the yards department as a truck driver and ended his career working in the store room in the Brackenridge plant of ATI. Shooter was involved for many years with Union 1196 Labor News, a newsletter which was published Monthly and distributed close to 2000 members. The newsletter won five awards from USW International for Newsletter of Excellence. Shooter enjoyed hunting at his friend’s camps . Shooter was very proud of the fact that he was the coordinator in 1979 with NBC for the Games People Play show. This was a televised tug of war involving members of Local Union 1196 and firemen from New Orleans. He lived his life to the fullest with many a tale filled with laughter and fun. He is survived by his siblings: John J. Shutak, Jr. of Tarentum and Yvonne Zola of Tallahassee, FL and his step siblings: Mark Butkowski and Stephanie Shaffer both of Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above.
Family and friends are invited from 6-8 on Monday, April 27, 2026 at the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA 15065 (724-224-7730). A blessing service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 10:00 AM with the Reverend Andrew Fischer, officiating. A private burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Tarentum, PA.
