Arthur Garmer Obituary

Arthur “Art” Harold Garmer, Jr., 92, of Springdale, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024 surrounded by his family just 6 days after his wife Shirley passed.  Arthur was born on Tuesday, September 22, 1931 in Lardintown, PA to the late Arthur H. and Ruth (Felsing) Garmer. Art was a proud veteran in the Army who served honorably during the Korean War as an engineering equipment mechanic. Following his time in the service, he was a lifelong owner operator Truck Driver.  He retired at the age of 85.  He was a 70-year member of the local VFW and American Legion.  He was a 32nd degree Mason, as well as a dedicated member of the Syria Shriners, Hillbilly Masons and the NRA.  Arthur's lifelong passions included restoring antique vehicles, tractors and motors; he was a long-time member of the Northwestern PA Steam Engine Association.  He was a legendary mechanic, who never gave up on a motor until it was running smoothly.  Art was an avid reader who loved riding his motorcycle, boating, spending winters in Florida and most of all spending time with his family. Arthur is survived by his children: Tammy (Mike) Jones of Pierson, FL,  Jennifer Garmer of Bethany Beach, DE, Douglas (Terri) Garmer of Belton, TX  step-daughter: Cynthia (Dave) Thomas of Gilpin Township, step-sons: Ronald (June) Arner of Valencia, PA, Donald (Diane) Arner of Vandergrift, Randy (Lori) Arner of New Castle, OH; and 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 37 years: Shirley A. (Kendell) Garmer (February 24, 2024), and his siblings: Theda Fredley and Alvin Garmer.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation for both Art and Shirley from 5-8 on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 to the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, PA  15065 (724-224-7730). Funeral services for both Art and Shirley will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 7 at the Deer Lakes Community Church of the Nazarene, 1839 Saxonburg Blvd., Tarentum, PA  15084 with the Pastor Timothy Golden, officiating.  Burial will follow at the Bull Creek Cemetery, Tarentum, PA.  For more information or to leave a condolence please visit www.petersfamilyfuneralhomes.com.
