Ethel Jean Allen, 80, of Lower Burrell, PA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, Cabot, PA.

Ethel was born on Monday, July 13, 1936 in New Kensington, PA to the late Carl L. and Mabel Gertrude Woomer Fester, Sr.  Ethel was a graduate of New Ken High School, Class of 1954 and the Citizens General Hospital Nursing School. She worked as a registered nurse at Citizens General Hospital retiring in 1998 after 42 years of service.  She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of New Kensington and the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, her cat Callie and especially her family.    

Ethel is survived by her children: Donald R. (Susan) Allen, Jr. of Buffalo Twp., PA and Sharon L. (Dan) Ihlenfeld of Saxonburg, her 3 grandchildren: Kelsie (Brok) Leda, Lexi and Zach Allen; her 3 sisters: Beverly (Robert) Swetof of New Kensington, Lois Baker of Gibsonia and Margaret “Peggy” Swank of Saltsburg; and her sisters-in-law: Patricia and Deloris Fester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Donald F. Allen, Sr. (February 5, 2013); her siblings: Carl “Sonny” Fester, Jr., Donald Fester, Fred Fester, John Fester, Dorothy Yockey, Karyn Foester, Joyce Haidz and Kathleen Diana.

Family and friends are invited from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday, October 16, at the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, 501 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068 (724-335-1951).  A service will be held at the United Presbyterian Church, 601 Fifth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068 on Monday, October 17 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Wendy Keys, officiating. (Everyone is asked to please meet at the church). Burial will follow at Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough, PA.
