David A. Cavanaugh

David A. Cavanaugh, 60, of  Brackenridge, passed away on  Saturday, June 18, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born September 7, 1955 in Pittsburgh to the late John G. and Nancy L. (Raeder) Cavanaugh. David graduated from Deer Lakes High School in the class of 1973 and resided in Brackenridge for over 30 years.

Mr. Cavanaugh was a union laborer for local 373 for over 30 years, working at many different construction locations until his retirement earlier this year, because of health reasons.

His hobbies included being a cub scout leader for Pack 186, little league coach for Tarentum-Brackenridge baseball, enjoyed and was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams, antiquing with his wife, playing with his grandchildren, especially going on summer vacations at the beaches of Wildwood Crest in New Jersey with his family, and was well known to be always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, friends, and family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Karen (Szczypinski) Cavanaugh of 36 years, whom he married on May 3, 1980, two daughters, Sarah (Michael) Robinson of Tarentum, Lauren (Christopher) Cottone of Natrona Heights, one son, Casey P. Cavanaugh (Jessica Lyle) of Natrona Heights; two grandchildren, Sophia Robinson and Aiden Cottone; his siblings, Michael (Peggy) Cavanaugh of West Deer, Kevin (Ruth) Cavanaugh of Tarentum, Cindy (Ken) Bocchi of Cabot, Brian (Jean) Cavanaugh of Hampton, Gary (Jackie) Cavanaugh of Springdale, Linda (Chris) Pratt of Natrona Heights and Todd (Lori) Cavanaugh of Cheswick; and numerous nieces and nephews. David was also expecting 3 additional grandchildren this fall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above.

His family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 on Wednesday (June 22) and from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday (June 23) at the ROBERT PETERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1521 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, 724-224-7730.  Funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 24th  in the First United Presbyterian Church, 913 Lock Street, Tarentum with Reverend Philip A. Beck officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery, Brackenridge.
